This far

I had such high hopes for completing some WIPS that have been lingering in my sewing room for the better part of 2012 before the year was out.   Thrilled as I was to complete my first king-size quilt, I really wanted to have this next quilt finished as well.  Part of the reason  it's waited so long has been because of how  slowly  I have been acquiring orange fabrics for it.  Just when I think I have enough and I can call the top finished...

I decide it needs to be a little bit bigger.
Currently, "Orange Twirl" is 60" x 72".  Which seemed large when it was on my design wall, but when laid out on the floor it doesn't seem large enough. sigh
If I made it to fit a twin sized bed, I think I would be satisfied.  So  should I just add a scrappy border or do I start making more blocks?  I'm having a tough time deciding....  Mostly because I want no borders, but making more blocks means I need more orange fabrics to keep it random looking and with the right balance of values.
What are your thoughts?

If you want it to be larger, and don't want to search for extra orange, you could consider a neutral border, and go for a Creamsicle! Maybe a scrappy running orange border or binding...

Oh more blocks, yes, more orange blocks! Would you like me to send some of my reasonably sized orange scraps?

Definitely more blocks. I was going to step up and say I'll send you some orange fabric, but I don't know if I've actually got any!! I'll have a look...

Wow what a gorgeous orange scrappy quilt! If this were my quilt and I wanted it larger to fit a twin bed, I would lay it on a twin bed and then see if the top covers the top of the bed. Then if you make it bigger, the sides would be the part that would overhang. I would add a narrow border all around in a different color, something that would stop the pattern and then I would do maybe a plain border with a few Prairie Points in your orange fabrics here and there to keep the orange feeling going but not too overwhelming. Orange is a strong color and most quilts use just a little orange to pop, but since your entire quilt is orange it might be too overpowering to make a scrappy orange border. Plus the scrappiness and the orange would compete way too much with the main quilt. Making more blocks is also an option, but if it's on a twin bed you really see the top of the quilt first as you enter the room. Hope this helps?

I have no suggestions that will help you, but I think I like the idea of no border. What I do know for sure is that I LOVE what you have going on here so far!!! All this orange is fabulous!

oh it looks fantastic. I am leaning more to do a few more blocks so it at least hangs over a single bed, which would also go on top of a double. I like the idea of no borders too. If you want to swap some scraps I am up to that, I have orange. What sizes do you need?

I'm in UFO control mode (well, it IS the beginning of a new year, lol) so I'm tempted to tell you to just add a border and be done with it, but I actually would prefer more blocks - the design is lovely, and there's no real urgency to getting it finished, is there? Other than UFO completion? I say ... just say YES to more blocks :D

I like Daryl's idea, but if you need more orange I'll send you some orange pieces to make it bigger and bigger. :O)

This is so beautiful, happy, sunny and nergy quilt - I love it! Perhaps you could make 'a border' with all the oranges you have left using them as squares and triangles. Then you wouldn't need so many tones of colors.

Your quilt is fantastic!
I don´t know about you, but I hate to make more bloks when I thought I made enough from the start.
If this was mine I think I´ll take a wide grey border and then mix all the left orange fabric for binding.
In the grey border I would quilt whit brigth orange thread;-)
But, it´s yours so it will be interesting to se how you chose to do!
